SEO Your Blog Categories

Remember to SEO Your Blog Categories

As a person who spends quite a bit of time with SEO, I can tell you that I have run across an overlooked element with my own blog lately.  That has resulted in me spending some more time with SEO on my blog categories.

Looking through my analytic data, it has become apparent that visitors are coming to the site through the category page.  Visitors are also moving around the site and discovering additional content by following the category links.  This insight has made it important to work on those categories in order to optimize them for organic traffic.

What Does SEO on Categories Entail?

Answering the above question is fairly simple.  The keyword target for the category is probably the category name itself.  It could have a brand + category association, but it is likely to simply be the category.  With the keyword target in mind, we can customize the title of the page, the meta description, and the page content itself to target the identified keyword.

What Does This Mean for You?

It’s simple really.  This means more traffic, from more sources, and then more page views per visit.  Those are all metrics we want to improve.  Work on SEOing your categories and you will improve all three.
